In a world where societal expectations, cultural norms, and personal choices connect, discussions about women’s health often stir a sense of curiosity and are still considered taboo. One such topic that has been the subject of misunderstanding is hymenoplasty.

Myths and Facts about Hymen Repair Surgery

What is Hymen Repair Surgery?

Hymen Repair Surgery is a surgical procedure that involves the reconstruction of the hymen, the thin membrane at the entrance of the vagina. The hymen is located about half an inch inside the vagina and is a component of the vulva. Hymenoplasty has to be done before marriage. Preferably it should be done 2 months before marriage so that the sutures will fall off by then. Sutures need at least 6 weeks to dissolve.

Certain myths revolve around Hymenoplasty and it’s time to uncover the real facts.

Myth 1: Hymen Repair Surgery leads to irregular menstrual cycles

Hymenoplasty is a treatment that does not involve any hormonal treatment. It cannot increase, decrease or change the menstrual cycle.

Myth 2: Horse Riding Ruptures the Hymen

No. It does not rupture the Hymen, because nothing goes inside the Vagina. It is inside the vagina and not at the entrance. The hymen is 1.5 – 2 cm in the vaginal opening, not at the entrance. Therefore, regardless of how frequently you engage in horse riding, the hymen remain intact and will not tear.

Hymenoplasty may make you more prone to urinary infections

Myth 3: Hymen Repair Surgery may make you more prone to urinary infections

It’s a misconception that urination and the hymen are connected. Urinary infections have various causes, but they are not related to the hymen. Hymen Repair Surgery is a safe procedure with no side effects. While there may be a risk of a urinary infection after the surgery, it is not linked to the operation itself.

Myth 4: There are side effects post-procedure

No. There are no side effects involved with the procedure. It is a minor procedure and the anaesthesia given is very mild, therefore there are no risks involved in the surgery because of the surgical procedure.

Myth 5: Myth 1: Hymen Repair Surgery ensures virginity.

Hymen Repair Surgery aims to restore an intact hymen, providing a semblance of a “virgin partner” experience. However, it’s crucial to note that having an intact hymen doesn’t guarantee virginity. The hymen can naturally tear for various reasons, even in women who have never engaged in sexual activity.

It’s important for women considering Hymen Repair Surgery to understand that an intact hymen doesn’t necessarily signify virginity. Virginity is determined by the absence of penetrative sexual activity, regardless of the condition of the hymen.

A Journey of Trust and Care

My name is Ayesha, and I come from a Gulf country. I was on a quest for a good Hymenoplasty surgeon with whom I could speak my concerns, and that’s how I came across Dr Niraj Mahajan on the internet. After learning about his experience, I felt a sense of comfort and confidence which led me to go ahead with Hymenoplasty. I was quite apprehensive about my surgery and I addressed them via mail to the Doctor. He was very friendly and professional as he walked me through the intricacies of the surgery which alleviated the apprehensions I had about the surgery, especially considering the challenges associated with travelling alone to a bustling city like Mumbai.

Upon my arrival in Mumbai, I headed to the hospital, where I was guided through the admission process. The continued support and guidance, coupled with the Doctor’s friendly demeanour, made a significant impact on my overall experience.

The surgery itself was performed with precision and efficiency, and completed in less than an hour. I was pleasantly surprised by the mild post-operative pain, allowing me to resume movement just three hours after the procedure. Your detailed explanation, supported by visual representations, of the hymenoplasty process further underscored the excellence of the procedure.

I must say that the hospital facilities were impeccable, and the accommodation was not only comfortable but also impeccably clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly, catering to all my needs.

Even after returning to my home country, Dr Niraj Mahajan continued to follow up and inquire about my health demonstrating a level of care and dedication that goes beyond the ordinary. I truly appreciate the ongoing support.
